Search Options

Search options include all obsolete and junk files extensions Giant Disk Cleaner will search for while searching for obsolete and junk files such as:

*.TMP, *.~*, ~*.*, *.??~, *.??$, *.^*, *.*~, *.??$

Temporary files are created for temporary use by both users and programs. Temporary files have the extension .TMP or are located in a folder named TEMP or .TMP. Files that have a tilde (~) or dollar sign ($) anywhere in their file name are considered to be temporary files.

*.BAK, *.OLD

Backup files are earlier versions of files you have edited and saved. Some programs preserve the next to the most recent version of a file in case you want to revert to that version or somehow lose the most recent version. Backup files typically have an extension that indicates they are backups, such as .BAK or .OLD.

CHKLIST.*,*.CHK,FILE????._DD

Lost Cluster Files are files which are created when lost clusters are found (CHKDSK.EXE). You can safely delete all of these files.

*.GID, *.FTS, *.FTG

These types of files are created by Widows 95/NT to speed up word research in help files. Deleting them is safe and will not prevent help files from running.

MSCREATE.DIR,*.---

Setup Files are compressed copies of files before they are installed on your system. Some install programs do not promptly remove these files.

MSCREATE.DIR files are created during the installation of Microsoft applications. We still do not fully understand why these files are not deleted but you can safely delete all of these files.

*LOG.TXT, *_LOG.TXT, BOOTLOG.PRV, MODEMDET.TXT, SUHDLOG.DAT, SYSTEM.1ST, BOOTLOG.TXT, SETUPLOG.TXT, SFLOG.TXT, NDISLOG.TXT, EELOG.TXT, BRNDLOG.TXT, RUNONCEEX.TXT,'OEWABLOG.TXT, SCHEDLOG.TXT, ENVCHECKLOG.TXT, FAULTLOG.TXT, DETLOG.TXT, NETLOG.TXT, SCANDISK.LOG

These are files that Windows creates when it detects new peripherals or when errors have occurred.
